Submission Requirements
01
Submission Requirements
At this time, we do not accept monochromatic or limited palette artworks for XP.
Line Art and Lineless Art
Line art (if present) should be relatively clean. Textured or pencil-like lines are allowed, but guidelines which give the piece a sketch-like appearance should not be visible.
Lineless art should have the character clearly defined with the use of shading or color values. Characters should not appear to be singular, continuing shapes with markings painted on. There should be some effort to define the separate portions of the body.
Perspective: Halfbody or Fullbody?
Extreme perspectives which may obscure portions of the body significantly are allowed and count as a full body submission, however extreme perspectives must serve an artistic purpose and must not be used to avoid drawing the whole body of the character while still gaining full body XP. The character must be clearly recognizable by the portions of the body that are visible, and the extreme perspective should also be clearly utilized in the background.
Character Scale
All characters must be clearly recognizable and shaded, regardless of scale. Scale, like perspective must serve an artistic purpose rather than being used to farm XP. Nekelloth, circled in the example provided below, is the smallest size that would be accepted for XP.
Backgrounds
All backgrounds must be an environment appropriate to the world design and have a clearly defined fore, mid and background with some detail in each of these sections, e.g., some small rocks and blades of grass in appropriate areas; bark detail on trees and wood; straw details on thatched roofs etc. Backgrounds must also be clearly shaded, or rendered in a manner appropriate for the style used, e.g., cel style, painted, etc.
The character, when in the scene, must look like they belong in it.
Shading
For an art piece to be accepted, the character and background must have clearly darkened sections, clearly lightened, or a combination of both to give the illusion of volume and dimensionality. These shadows and highlights may be various colors or gray or black. There should be shadows and highlights clearly visible against the design of the character and the background. Shading should clearly be discernible from a thumbnail image. Shading that is too light or too minimal to be seen from the thumbnail should be darkened or expanded to be more visible.
Collaborations
Collaborations must feature one or more characters from each of the artists participating in the collaboration. Division of labor is at the discretion of the players participating in the collaboration; however, it is both encouraged and strongly recommended that tasks be divided up as equally as possible. Collaborations where one party has no character investment in the scene will not be accepted.
All collaboration participants will earn an equal amount of experience. XP earnings will be calculated based on the character with the lowest XP value, e.g., if one character is full body and one character is half body, both characters will earn the XP of a small illustration.
How to Submit
Unless otherwise stated by an activity or XP requirement, we do not require specific forms or steps for group submissions. To submit something to the gallery, simply request to add it to the relevant folder and you’re done! You can do this either with the “Add to Group” button from the deviation page or from the group gallery itself by clicking the “+” on each category header. Admins will ensure it’s going to the right place and will let you know if something needs to be fixed. However, some activities do require specific information in the deviation description, so make sure to check the rules for your activity before submitting!
