To an extent, yes. You’re free to add scratches/damage/clan emblems, as well as customize the color of the fabric or fur. You cannot drastically change the color of the metal and the overall design of the armor must remain the same, e.g., no changing the shape or material. Slight variations in metal color (darker or lighter) are acceptable. There will be an item released later that will allow you to glamor your armor and allow you to make it look like whatever you want. 

You can purchase a Rune of Transformation in the shop that allows you to change your warg’s design, but you will need to submit a cosmetic change form to have your design changes approved. Although less common, this item can also be earned in the world by participating in certain activities. A Rune of Transformation is not required for minor cosmetic changes, such as a slight eye color adjustment, or the addition of scars earned through in character events.

Yes, you must color pick from the palettes. While some variation is expected, your design will be color picked (eyedropped) before official approval and compared to the official palette for your race. If the colors you have selected do not appear to match, or be within reasonable proximity of an existing color, you will be asked to correct the design. 

Yes, you can use base colors as accent colors, but you cannot use accent colors as a base. If you are using dramatically different base colors, like a blue and a brown, make sure one color is dominant and appears as the "main" color used for your character's base coat. There should be little to no difficulty in differentiating base and accent color usage.

No, but the main colors should be in the wheel. You can either add more spaces, divide up the spaces, or leave colors out, it’s up to you. 

Theoretically, yes, for Icewarg or Stonewarg, you can include small, decorative shavings as long as the design fits within the theme of the world, e.g., no hearts, lightning bolts, polka dots, etc. Because of the anatomy of the Woodwarg mane, it would be strange to do so, and a similar effect could be achieved by tying knots into the hair, like show horse plaits. Be aware that there may be cultural impacts to shaving your character's mane. Please refer to the design guides for more information.

Mottled flesh tones are only acceptable for Icewarg and are most commonly seen in individuals with the Appaloosa marking. Mottled flesh in Icewarg would follow the same rule of consistent flesh tones throughout e.g., eyes, nose, lips, pads.

Yes, as long as the length is appropriate. Facial hair should not be exceedingly long, think something like a German Wirehaired Pointer, or Irish Wolfhound.

The only required racial marking is dun on Stonewarg. All other markings are optional. 

Mostly, yes. Each race has a color available either on the base or accent swatches that is an off-white. Markings should be similar to those found in wild wolves. Things like minimal white markings like facial markings or socks are allowed.  Markings like Irish spotting or piebald are not.

  • Prosthetics should be reminiscent of Viking/early medieval prosthetics blended with high fantasy.
  • Most prosthetics would be simplistic in their design but may make use of magical components.

Yes, you may create designs and sell them to other users to use in Hvalla. There will be a way to have these designs be “pre-approved” in a future update.

Yes, but these types of characters cannot be sold. You cannot sell a design with any character requirements (aside from race), such as “must be a member of X clan” or “must be my character’s brother”. You may have write/draw to adopts, but no money or goods can be exchanged for these designs. 

Yes! You can post designs in the #design-questions channel for an admin to review. This is not a final approval/denial, but we can offer support for designs there.

Yes and no, while you don’t need to have their One True Fear (™) listed, they should have something listed for both ambition and fear, even if they are very generic like “help re-build the city” or “afraid of being alone”. We just need something to see that your character has something driving them, even if you would like to keep the more complex portions of their character a secret. 

For height, no, your warg must fall within the min/max range. For weight, yes, however, being under or overweight and its effects on their character should be listed on your sheet. You can find these effects under the height and weight section on the official design guide.

We have no specific rules on names that are allowed/not allowed, as long as the name does not clash with the setting, e.g., Bob or Frank. The setting uses mostly Nordic and Germanic names with some cultural variances, though you are welcome to make something up, or use any other language that would be setting-appropriate. 

Wargs do not have surnames. Nicknames should not appear in the style of titles, e.g., “The Iron Jaw,” “Gladiator,” “The Undying.” Titles must be earned by completing achievements in game.

All prophecies must be pre-approved by admins beforehand, and the character must be born before 807, as this is the year the Keepers disappeared. 

At minimum, they should have at least one named parent or caretaker if they are an orphan, though you should include as many as feasible, e.g., if they have parents/siblings/grandparents, you should list them, beyond that is really up to you. 

Talents are earned at level 5, so they should be left blank and updated later as you progress through the game.

All collaboration participants will earn an equal amount of experience. XP earnings will be calculated based on the character with the lowest XP value, e.g., if one character is full body and one character is half body, both characters will earn the XP of a small illustration.

Yes, you may submit work of your character’s past, though we recommend focusing on current events. These may earn XP but cannot be rolled for activities.

There should be some detail even if it’s intentionally obscured in some way, but as long as the majority of the comic has backgrounds that meet the minimum requirements, and it doesn’t look like a flat color/single click gradient, a single panel with the background obscured would be acceptable.

No, it is not possible for characters from different races to create offspring. 

Hvalla is set in Iron/Early Middle Ages, so technology associated with those time periods. 

A thrall is more or less an indentured servant. They may have been born a thrall if both of their parents were thralls at their birth, or they may have been made one as a punishment. Thralls can work to pay off their debts and become freefolk. You may play a thrall, but you must have another player as your master. Masters cannot be NPCs.

Weapons can be used with latent magic, and some smaller weapons have replaceable grips which can be held in a warg’s mouth.

It’s unlikely a warg would start eating a carcass raw unless it was an absolute necessity for survival in dire circumstances. Culturally it would be considered strange and inappropriate, especially in the eyes of the Woodwarg. Stonewarg as the exception have a festival in which young hunters partake in a ritual in which they consume the meat of their first kill raw, but outside of this first rite, kills would be properly processed as hunters are hunting for more than just themselves most of the time. They’re earning money off hunted produce, and meat is more flavorful when cooked.

Their Thralldom is passed to the next of kin. If there are none left their thralldom is passed to the governing body/city.

Thralls are identifiable by enchanted leg bands. Crafted from metal or leather, these bands carry the stamp of their race, the clan their master belongs to, and their master’s name. The bands allow for passage within a certain region, i.e., a single property, or an entire region. Any thrall who attempts to move beyond the designated region, or forcibly remove the band, will activate the enchantment, electrocuting them and rendering them inert. Magically bound to their master, escape for thralls is essentially impossible. You can read more about Thralls here.

Yes, pets/companions can be purchased from shops. Each race has livestock/beasts of burden. Your character may own livestock or other work animals for flavor. Bestiary information will be released continually throughout beta.

Yes, and no. Before the Cataclysm, the races did interact and knew of the others. However, after the Cataclysm, as each race has been ravaged and are so far away, it is unknown to each of them if the others have survived. It is up to you as players to find them again! If your warg is old enough, your warg may have known wargs from other races before the Cataclysm. 

Ice and Stone got along. Wood and Ice got along. Wood and Stone did not get along. 

No warg is known to have died of old age, so they are functionally immortal in that sense, however, Hvalla is a very dangerous place. Basically, wargs are immortal until they are killed by a creature stronger than themselves, or by the environment through illness, hypothermia, etc.

No, a warg’s birth is their first induction into their clan, which is confirmed in their trial later in life. Orphans would be considered members of the clan of the orphanage that took them in.

To a reasonable extent, yes. A warg could lift a box with a chicken inside, this is actually one way wargs care for their pups. However, wargs could not move larger living things, such as lifting a warg by controlling their armor. Wargs weigh several hundred pounds and would be too large for any warg to lift with just latent magic. 

Yes, warg can use their magic to lift things that do not have the will to resist. This includes dead things, since they no longer have the will to resist. 

No, wargs names are only their birth names and then that of their clan. For example, Bobert of Clan Bootyslayer.

No, Thralls retain their membership to their clan, they are just considered lesser.

Depending on their location, some relationships may make more sense than others, but generally yes. For example, Clan Ulfang and Darykmor have territories next to each other, so relationships between them would be almost expected. However, Wildflame is very far away from Ulfang, and therefore relationships would be unlikely unless the members met outside of their homeland. 

Pre-Cataclysm, yes, they may have had a relationship with a warg from another race, though be aware how race relations may have caused their relationship to be viewed. Post-Cataclysm, no, as all members of other races were ejected from the capital cities. This may change once the races re-connect. 

Yes, but be aware, changing clans for any reason other than marriage is viewed poorly. If your character changed clans in their history, you do not need an item for this. If they are approved, and then change clans in game, an item will be required to do so.
