Clan Gravenrail
of the icewarg
01
Clan Origins
The oldest Clan of the Icewarg, its roots touch each of the race’s past and present Kings, though its people are not all of royal blood. Founded first by Grothgar and his ilk, it has grown considerably over hundreds of years and, unlike most, works in tandem with all other Clans within Iringard to promote peace, prosperity, and health. It is their unspoken responsibility to unite all Clans in times of war and hardship. While the other Clans focus primarily on supplying the population with food, weapons, and knowledge, Clan Gravenrail supplies the city with military forces (Vaskyr). Thus, to become a member, you must test your strength and cunning in battle against one of Gravenail’s finest — and win.

Clan Culture & Values
Having a history of royal blood and heavy ties to public welfare, Clan Gravenrail highly values honor in regards to doing what is best for all of the Icewarg. With that honor, comes sacrifice. Members of Clan Gravenrail have to put duty above all else to their King and for their people and must be willing to discard their own desires, wants, and even their lives for the betterment and protection of the Icewarg. Hence, those in the Clan Gravenrail value those who can endure to the end and be resolute in both their words and actions.
However, in ruling such a proud race, power is a necessity. Their culture and history is deeply rooted in fighting monsters so their people can be just as stubborn and fierce as the permafrost on Mount Hundrolf’s peak. Therefore, Clan Gravenrail has always awarded and put emphasis on those who can exercise and wield power in all its forms. But it’s one thing to hold power, and another to act on it. Wavering in indecision can be deathly and so Clan Gravenrail puts stock into members who can move forward and act on the impulse to move forward.
Regardless of anything else, Clan Gravenrail’s ultimate goal is unity within all of Iringard. To be that unifying force, those in Gravenrail’s ranks should be all of the traits that have been spoken above. Afterall, together, the Icewarg are a force not even great Jormu can defeat, but fractured, they shall fall and the wild and harsh lands they call home will claim them.
Clan Gravenrail is the military might of the Icewarg. They are the fangs and the claws of the race and should not be messed with. Many of its members are a part of the Vaskyrian Army. They are a battle hardened group of warriors, dedicated to their King and their people. Those enlisted undergo rigorous training with heavy armor and all manner of deadly weapons. In addition to the training, many members of Gravenrail’s force work in tandem with Clan Bosry in protecting the Icewarg’s borders from enemies and monsters abroad and at home. And those that don’t are often used as diplomats between clans and with the other races; however, since the borders closed, the Vaskyr have not been used to connect with the other two races of Hvalla. Clan Politics
Clan Bosry
Status: Allies
Gravenrail has a close and strong relationship with Clan Bosry due to the nature of their roles within Iringard. Both Gravenrail and Bosry desire to uphold the laws of their land and exact justice in order to keep their home and citizens safe.
Clan Emerstead
Status: Enemies
Clan Gravenrail and Clan Emerstead dislike each other. Clan Emerstead believes they should be better funded to upkeep Iringard’s singular library since it holds many important documents about the world at large. Clan Graverail feels like their coin is best spent on more pressing matters within their own people rather than an old library. They also do not put much value in the tales of wandering bards and lore of old so they do not send much of their funds for the upkeep of the library. Hence, a mutual dislike between the two is evident.
Clan Snowcolt
Status: Allies
Healers are in constant demand, especially for an army as large as the Vaskyr. Therefore, relations are healthy between Clan Gravenrail & Clan Snowcolt. Clan Snowcolt was also founded by a former member of Clan Gravenrail, so there is some sense of a familial tie to the crown and to Gravenrail as a whole.
Clan Arshaw
Status: Enemies
Relations between Clan Arshaw & Clan Gravenrail are tense at best. Clan Gravenrail decided to ignore the oracle’s warning and therefore, Clan Arshaw believes Clan Gravenrail is at fault for the current state of affairs. Clan Gravenrail disagrees believing their decisions have helped Iringard stay safer.
Clan Grizzlehorn
Status: Allies
Being the largest host and army that protects Iringard from invaders and dangers, Clan Gravenrail & Clan Grizzlehorn have a close business relationship. Clan Gravenrail is in constant need of supplies, like quality weapons and armor, to stock the Icewarg army and to keep them as safe and powerful as Iringard needs.
Clan Myrewing
Status: Neutral
Clan Gravenrail and Clan Myrewing have always had a neutral relationship. Having expertise in battling monsters and beasts, Clan Myrewing will give their knowledge, as needed, to help the Vaskyr of Clan Gravenrail to fell beasts that pose a danger to Iringard. And Clan Gravenrail will keep their families safe at home, while they go abroad hunting monsters to help the Icewarg. Recently, however, with the new Grandwarg, relations seem to be improving between the two as it appears the new King Galgamar and current Grandwarg share a bond of some kind.

Clan Festivals & Events
Vaskyr Tourney (Winter)
To help foster a strong force within the military ranks and to have opportunities for those in the military to showcase their abilities and skills, Clan Gravenrail hosts a tournament to determine potential Avalanche members and see who will be able to rise within the ranks. The tournament runs for several weeks as members of the Vaskyrian army battle with one another and Generals and other high ranking members of the Clan watch and evaluate.
The Winter Ball (Winter)
As noted before, unity is extremely important to those in Clan Gravenrail. To help foster good relations between all clans, Gravenrail hosts a winter ball where the palace gates are opened for invited members of all the clans to come and dance, eat, and be merry. The daytime portion of the event is open to the general public, allowing Icewarg of any relation and status to mingle and dance and eat in celebration. In the evening time, the gates close to the public and only the select members of all the clans who received invitations are invited to the actual ball. Dances, sweet delicacies, and a grand performance, put on from Sharlaveen’s best, is had at the ball as bonds are formed, secrets traded, and deals formed.
Parade of the Avalanche (Summer)
To repay and honor those who have sacrificed and given their all for their people, Clan Gravenrail hosts a parade for all of the Icewarg to attend. Music is played as the King’s Army marches in all of its regalia through the city with floats and monuments to those who have lost their lives in defense of their home and country. The parade is usually a celebration and is a lovely and fun event. Stalls are put up for vendors to sell their wares once the parade has finished and those in the military are given the day off to spend time with their loved ones. As a thing of note, it is common for those in attendance to wear snowdrops on their person in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the Icewarg.
Tales of Heroes (Summer)
During the peak summer months, storytelling of all the statues in the Garden of the Heroes is regaled. It is not uncommon for those from Sharlaveen’s Theatre to put on reenactments of the tales of the statues for the children and adults to watch. Clan Gravenrail also selects accomplished and renowned members of those in the Army to come and tell their own stories of heroic deeds, or of those they witnessed. This event goes on for several days as each monument is gone through individually to retell its story. At the end of the event, Clan Gravenrail spends time cleaning up the statues of ice and stone, both in the garden and the palace, to make sure that the stories will last forever and give a reminder to others that both the Icewarg and Gravenrail power has and will never wane.
